Getting the Word Out About Sports Massage

December 7th, 2009

This past week-end, Megan and I traveled to the Downtown Syracuse Convention Center for the Pinky Stone Gymnastics Invitational. Our purpose was to get the word out to gymnasts, parents and coaches about the benefits of massage for improved athletic performance. We did several Sports Massages for the gymnasts competing. Gymnasts that got a massage also sampled the Helios Pain Relief Spray and loved it. img_0216

I will be launching a new product, The Shuzi Qi jewelry line. These products are embedded with a tiny chip that vibrates at the same frequency as the cells in your body creating better communication patterns for endurance, strength, balance and mental clarity, can’t believe it, check it out for yourself and enjoy a free demo this week-end. In addition to the great demos on the Helios and Shuzi Qi products, I will be there with some other massage therapists providing chair and sports massage for $10 and $15 per session.

Happy Thanksgiving

November 30th, 2009

Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving. I spent this year with my family following the first Turkey Trot I’ve ever experienced. I ran a 2.5 mile fun run with my cousin Corina. I felt great and I still ate my share in pumpkin pie.img_0191

Helios Really Works!

August 17th, 2009

I did another Sprint Triathlon this week-end in Sodus Point, NY. My time was 1:33:36, not bad for my second race. It was a humid morning, as I set up my transition area and powered down some gummies. Twenty minutes before the race began, I sprayed my knees, ankles, and neck with Helios. Since I’ve had 2 ACL reconstructive surgeries on my knees, sprained ankles and bone spurs in my neck, it’s important to remain pain free. The Helios product works great because I can spray it on before my event, do some stretches and I’m good to go. Here we are a day after and still, I’m not even sore anywhere…. I love it.

Sugar Scrub

August 10th, 2009

Times are tough and people are cutting costs everywhere. In economic times like this, we need to be resourceful and make the best of things we have. I believe having a smaller budget forces us to be more creative and green by making new uses for things we have around us everyday…like sugar!

Make a sugar scrub fast and easy with a few simple tools:
- 4 oz. jelly jar
- choice of jojoba, sweet almond, apricot, grape seed oil
- sugar

I’m usually making large quantities for gifts, so this recipe is for making many
Directions:
Each jelly jar gets about 1/3 cup of sugar, then just add the oil. You can add essential oils to the carrier oil before you mix it with the sugar. The consistency will be thick and slushy.

I use Hobacare Jojoba because it has a longer shelf life and is cold pressed.

I do use this product for everything from make-up removal to sugar scrubs.

Sewing Spa Week-End

August 10th, 2009

I was so honored to work with Janet again this week-end at the annual Calico Gals Summer Sewing Spa. I was there teaching a few classes and providing relaxing massage therapy services. For those of you that attended this fabulous event, I had such a great time, next year I want to bring my sewing machine and play. I was very happy to see so much interest in my stretching class this year. I hope everyone had the opportunity to grab a stretching “how to” card, if not just email me and I’ll get one out to you. Keep checking back for my “DIY” page on sugar scrubs, room fresheners and such. I promised I would link all my resources for supplies and it’s coming. See you soon.

Drink Water Now!

August 3rd, 2009

Being dehydrated decreases anaerobic muscular power. A recent study from The Athletic Department at Chicago State University suggests a decrease in power with a decrease in water. The study found that a mere 2.9% drop in body mass from dehydration decreased the anaerobic muscular power. So this means all of you vaulters and tumblers, you will vault and tumble lower than when you are hydrated and springy. Not to mention the decreased hydration can result in INJURY.

Going to USAG Region 6 Congress in Boston

July 22nd, 2009

I’m so excited to be a part of the USA Gymnastics Regional Congress this year. I remember when I first started coaching in Rochester, I attended my first Regional Conference in Saratoga Springs, NY. I was like a little sponge, soaking up every little piece of information I could get that would help me on my journey as a coach. I remember thinking that someday I wanted to up there and presenting. Now, here I am about to give my first workshop. I’m presenting on posture assessment and stretches for avoiding injuries. The name of my workshop is ” Overused and Under-stretched: Creating Perfect Balance.” The Regional Conference is scheduled for the first week-end in August, so I’ve been practicing my material. I am just hoping I can get a screen projector before I go.

I have also set up a raffle for a 1 hour massage gift certificate. The tickets are $2 each and $5 for 3. I will match all funds made from the raffle as a donation to the Children’s Hospital. If you get the chance, stop in and pick up a ticket or 3.
