Muscles In Motion

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Keep your muscles in motion with activity.  Even in the cold winter months when your breath freezes in the crispy air, theres still a wonderful magic about playing outside.  Sure it’s easier to get outside and just talk a quick walk in summer, but just think of all the extra calories your burning when you’re pulling those snowpants over multiple layers of socks pulled up to your knees and stretchy pants.  By the time you get fully dressed to go outside, bullets of sweat are beading down your forehead.  Then, when you finally step outside into 25 degree ice box, it actually feels good.

I found time last sunday to go out and explore in the Tug Hill area.  There had been an ice storm followed by a perfect dusting of new fallen snow, which left a few inches of powder clinging to the branches.  The sun was very bright against the indgo sky without a cloud in sight.  Before long, I found myself sweating as I snowshoed through the wilderness, going up hills and over streams.  It seemed like hours passed by as the sun creeped below the tree line and I headed back to camp with a great sense of accomplishment.  Maybe it was the fresh, cool air or the bright sun on my face.  Maybe it was the fact that I just hiked around in the snow all day enjoying the scenery.  Whatever it was, I had a great workout and sense of well-being.  I highly suggest getting out into the snow and playing!Shania Dzielak snowshoeing

Holiday Gift Idea

Friday, November 28th, 2008

This year, give the gift of wellness and health.  Start by filling a basket with multi-vitamins and omega-3 fish oils.  Next add a bottle of Mona-vie, which contains the acai berry, the highest anti-oxident rich fruit.  Finally add a massage gift certificate.  The greatest of all gifts, is the gift of health.  You can find all these items right at our office in Cicero, where you can even sample a small glass of the Mona-vie and relax with a chair massage.  Stop in anytime during our regular hours if you have any questions or just want advice on what to put together for a gift.  We also have buckwheat pillows for eyes and sinuses, filled with organic herbs like peppermint and lavender.

Troubles With Allergies

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

It seems to be that time of year when the air really dries out, so if you are like me, you tend to get stuffy. Here are some things that seem to help me. First of all, I have a great humidifier. It’s large enough to be used for the entire house. If you use a humidifier, be sure to change the filter on a regular basis. One filter usually lasts me through the winter. Next, make sure to get rid of any pet dander or dust that get caught in heat vents. Regular vacuuming the heat vents and air ducts on a regular basis. Finally, I use a saline solution of sea salt and distilled water to flush my sinuses of any allergens that may have collected in there throughout the day.

Once the flu season hits any everyone seems to be fighting a cold, I’ll start using more rosemary and eucalyptus infused sinus packs. There is something very soothing about a warm pack placed directly on the forehead.

Water and Massage

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Its important to drink lots of water after receiving massage.  Cellur debris, toxins and lactic acid build up in your muscles.  During a massage , the therapist is manually flushing those waste products into your lymph and blood.  The best way to elliminate these toxins and avoid a later headache is to drink plenty of water.

How much water is enough? It’s a good idea to drink half of your body weight in ounces.  This means, if you weigh 120 lbs, drink 60 oz. of water per day.  If you need some flavor try adding lemons or decaffeinated green tea bags.
